The objective of water treatment is to provide a safe and aesthetically pleasing water for
domestic, commercial and industrial uses. ABL engineers have developed process equipment for
domestic water supplies and municipal systems for sale by Rawdon Technologies Limited.
These systems use dissolved air flotation (DAF) to separate floc faster and more positively than
by gravity settling. DAF can achieve effluent turbidities less than 0.5 NTU resulting in longer
filter runs and longer filter life. The entire system is constructed in modular units, usually of
stainless steel. ABL has designed water treatment systems for the Town of Stewiacke and the
Village of Sherbrooke and Orangedale. ABL has been process designer on a design build team
for the City of Dartmouth Water Treatment Plant.
Water treatment plant audits have been completed for communities including Mahone Bay. A
water treatment plant audit was done for the City of Bathurst and resulted in a new operations
manual and training of operators. Treatability studies have been conducted for Coxheath, Chapel
Island, Orangedale, and Sherbrooke. Predesign studies have been completed for Coxheath in
Cape Breton Regional Municipality including pilot plant operation using Rawdon's automated
pilot trailer with full data acquisition capabilities.
Water distribution studies, modelling and designs have been conducted for the Town of
Liverpool resulting in the design of a pressure booster station and pressure zone separation in the
Town. Watermain replacement has been completed in the Town of Stewiacke to alleviate
watermain breakage and losses. Upgrades have been done to water distribution in the Town of
Lunenburg.
