Pilot Testing

ABL conducts pilot studies to test processes, optimize operations, or develop design criteria. The Rawdon Pilot Trailer can be used to evaluate the effectiveness of the DAF process, or various pilot facilities can be specially designed and constructed to match the client's requirements. Shown here is the installation for a pilot study in Orangedale, Nova Scotia, which confirmed treatability of a highly coloured local water supply with DAF and allowed construction of an economic treatment facility for this small community. DAF pilot studies were also completed in Sherbrooke, Springhill, and Arichat, Nova Scotia prior to construction of a water treatment plant. A pilot study was also completed in Grand Bank, Newfoundland and Labrador.

ABL conducted pilot tests for the Department of National Defence Fire Fighter Training Facilities in Halifax, Nova Scotia. The wastewater produced at the school combined domestic sewage with large quantities of firefighting wastewater, and a pilot was required to determine the biological treatability of foaming agents such as LAS detergents. Bench scale studies were also conducted in ABL's lab in support of pilot testing in the field.

ABL can design and operate on-site pilot testing programs, or we can train a client's operators in the proper conduct of a pilot test, with ABL staff available to assist in interpretation of results as required. We have provided this service, for example, to an industrial client with a highly variable wastewater (i.e. in strength, composition and flow).
